RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT
The following events took place in the University from Monday 18th – Friday 29th March, 2024.
1. The just concluded 34th Convocation Ceremony was prominently featured on the monthly NUC publication. The Commission highlighted major achievements of the University and noted the commendation of the Federal Government to the University of Port Harcourt for embracing the Triple Helix Model.
2. The University Management received a delegation from the Compass Group led by Alexis Rockenbach. The Compass Group had organized the first edition training programme for students in the Faculty of Computing and the visit enabled discussions on strategic approaches to ramping up the second edition of the training and other beneficial areas of partnerships. Mr Joel Emmanuel, a student of the University who emerged winner accompanied the delegation in the visit.
3. The Africa Centre of Excellence, Centre for Public Health and Toxicologicak Research (ACE-PUTOR), University of Port Harcourt organized the 2024 ACE-PUTOR Research Fair. The Research Fair focused on University Contributions to National Development through Translational Research and Implementation Science.
4. As we encourage inter-faculty collaboration to enhance University development, the Faculty of Agriculture has deployed the mobile farm truck designed and produced by the Faculty of Engineering to transport farm produce from the University Demonstration Farm to end users.
5. The 185th Inaugural Lecture of the University was presented by the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Nekabari Johnson Nna of the Department of Political and Administrative Studies. The Inaugural Lecturer unraveled the burden of diversity which has posed a great challenge to the development of Nigeria and made great recommendations. The event was well attended.
6. As an entrepreneurial University, the University of Port Harcourt Entrepreneurial Centre organized the Enterprise Challenge 2024. The challenge was designed to produce entrepreneurial graduates.
7. As we thrive to strengthen our student friendly relationship, we joined strategic stakeholders to carry out a social responsibility of gifting students at the Dan Etete Hostel food items ranging from noodles, beverages, rice etc as a gesture to support their welfare.
8. Again, the University of Port Harcourt has raised the bar as a Team from the University just won the FY24 Cisco Premier + award and also secured partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS Academy). The partnership will provide our students with free access to cloud computing courses, data engineering, AWS solution architecture and cloud security. We commend the Cisco Team lead by Dr. Daniel Ekpah.
9. The University of Port Harcourt was amongst the five selected universities across Nigeria that participated at the EU-Erasmus Embedded AI Consortium Workshop at the University of Siegen, Germany. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill and the Director of CITE, Prof. Bourdillion represented the University at the Workshop. On the sidelines, we met with a first class graduate of the University, Mr. Akachukwu Ikefuama who is currently pursuing a post-graduate degree at the University of Siegen, Germany.
10. We commenced the process of bindery in the University to aid uniformity and standardization of projects, dissertations and thesis.
