Breaking News: University of Port Harcourt’s Maiden Law Graduates Excel in Law School Examinations

In what can only be described as a landmark moment in the history of the University of Port Harcourt, three graduates from the maiden set of the Faculty of Law have emerged with First Class Honours in the recently released results of the Nigerian Law School examinations.

This remarkable achievement marks the University’s debut on the national stage of legal education—and what a debut it is! The outstanding performance of these pioneer graduates sends a clear message that the University of Port Harcourt, though a late entrant into the legal academic sphere, is poised not just to participate, but to lead.
About the Faculty of Law: A Long-Awaited Dream Realized

For nearly forty years since its establishment as one of Nigeria’s distinguished second-generation universities, the University of Port Harcourt operated without a Faculty of Law. Many stakeholders and alumni longed for the inclusion of legal studies in the University’s academic offerings. After years of careful planning, curriculum development, and accreditation processes, the Faculty of Law was officially established, admitting its first set of students just a few years ago.
From its inception, the Faculty was built on a vision of excellence, integrity, and societal relevance. Its founding leadership focused on assembling a top-tier academic team, creating a learner-centered environment, and fostering an ethos of professionalism and justice.
A Historic First, A Promising Future
The success of the Faculty’s first graduating class is not only a vindication of that vision—it is a bold statement of arrival. These First Class honours are the result of rigorous academic training, mentorship, and personal discipline, reflecting the high standards set by the Faculty and the University at large.

Speaking on the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill, expressed deep pride and excitement:
“This is a defining moment for the University of Port Harcourt. The performance of our maiden law graduates at the Nigerian Law School affirms that we are building an institution of not just national relevance but global excellence. We commend the Dean of the Faculty of Law and his entire team for laying such a strong foundation.”
A Salute to the Trailblazers
As we celebrate this monumental feat, we also acknowledge the courage, determination, and pioneering spirit of the students themselves. To be the first is to walk uncharted paths. These trailblazers have not only succeeded but have set a gold standard for others to follow.
The Faculty of Law is now positioned as one of the University’s most promising and fast-rising faculties, drawing attention from prospective students, academic peers, and professional bodies across the country.
Looking Ahead
This achievement is only the beginning. With such a strong start, the University of Port Harcourt is poised to become a major contributor to the Nigerian legal system—producing lawyers who are not only academically excellent but ethically grounded and socially responsible.

As the University continues to invest in infrastructure, faculty development, and student support systems, the Faculty of Law is expected to grow in influence and impact, both within and beyond the University gates.
Congratulations to our First Class graduates, to the Faculty of Law, and to the entire University of Port Harcourt community. History has been made—and the future is bright.
Long live the University of Port Harcourt.
Long live the Faculty of Law.
Long live excellence in legal education.
