
THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT WOMEN ASSOCIATION FELICITATES WITH WOMEN ON THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2025
International Women’s Day marks a memorable day for celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The celebration observed globally on March 8, adopted the campaign theme “Accelerate Action,” for the 2025 celebrations. This year’s theme calls for decisive actions to unlock equal rights, power, and opportunities for all women and girls, for a sustainable future.
International Women’s Day, which dates back to 1977 is celebrated in many countries around the world as a day to recognize the contributions and achievements of women across all sectors and nationalities, without regards to ethnicity or political divisions.
The commemoration of International Women’s Day took a global dimension through the efforts of international organizations and women’s movements. The growing momentum has been significantly strengthened by four global United Nations women’s conferences, turning the occasion into a rallying point for advocacy and policy advancements in gender equality, political representation, and economic empowerment.
In the wake of the 2025 celebrations, the President of the University of Port Harcourt Women Association, Prof. Udeme Owunari Georgewill, poured heartfelt felicitations on all women, congratulating them on their role in economic empowerment as this is one of the means of empowering women. As a self-investment coach, she emphasized the urgency for women to advance in self-investment and self-improvement, a time to unlearn, learn, and relearn, and urged women to Accelerate Action in building up on self-improvements.
